Cabinet Approves Key Decisions Including Hydropower Projects and Civil Service Reform

The Council of Ministers meeting held on Tuesday has made four significant decisions related to infrastructure development, administrative reform, institutional management, and governance.

Government spokesperson Sasmita Pokharel announced the decisions following the Cabinet meeting.

According to the government, approval has been granted for the use of national forest land for the construction and operation of four hydropower projects: Lower Arun, Lower Nyadi Khola, Dhunsa Khola, and Tadi Khola Hydropower Projects. The decision is expected to facilitate the implementation of these energy projects and support Nepal’s hydropower development goals.

The Cabinet has also approved the 16th Amendment to the Civil Service Regulations, 2083. The amendment is expected to introduce reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and service delivery within the civil service sector.

In another decision, the government has formed an ad-hoc committee of the Nepal Red Cross Society under the chairmanship of Bishal Kumar Bhandari of Dolakha. The committee will be responsible for managing the organization's affairs and facilitating institutional operations until a permanent structure is established.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has officially received and accepted the report submitted by the committee formed to study and investigate matters related to former Home Minister and House of Representatives member Sudhan Gurung. The report was prepared following an investigation into allegations concerning his assets and investments.

The government stated that these decisions reflect its commitment to strengthening governance, accelerating development projects, and ensuring institutional accountability.
