Advertising Board Makes Prior Approval Mandatory for Broadcast Advertisements
Nepal's Advertising Board has directed that all audio, visual, and audiovisual advertisements must receive prior approval before being broadcast, warning of legal action against violators.

Nepal's Advertising Board has reiterated that all audio, visual, and audiovisual advertisements intended for broadcast within the country must undergo mandatory review and obtain prior approval from the board before being aired.
In a public notice, the board said it has found that several advertisements are being broadcast without approval. It also noted that some advertisements fail to include mandatory information such as the advertiser's name, address, and warning messages, while others contain misleading, exaggerated, or unsubstantiated claims that could deceive consumers.
According to the Advertisement Regulation Act, 2019 (2076 BS), the Advertisement Regulation Rules, 2020 (2077 BS), and the Advertisement Broadcast Content Review Standards, 2021 (First Amendment 2023), the authority to review and approve advertisement content lies with the Advertising Board.
The board has instructed advertisers, media outlets, and other concerned stakeholders to immediately submit any advertisements currently being broadcast without approval for review and complete the required legal procedures.
It has also directed that advertisements violating existing laws be removed immediately and warned that legal action will be taken against anyone found broadcasting advertisements without complying with the applicable regulations.
