Airlines in Nepal are continuing to charge regular government-approved fares despite a sharp rise in demand for air travel, according to the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal.

The association said airlines have not increased ticket prices above the rates set by the government, although the cheaper fare categories have been sold out due to increased demand.

According to the association, airlines are continuing to maintain their regular fares as part of their humanitarian and social responsibility during the ongoing disaster situation.

The clarification comes amid increased demand for domestic air travel, with movement and transportation affected in several parts of the country following recent floods and disruptions.

The association said the exhaustion of lower-priced ticket categories does not mean airlines have increased fares beyond the government-approved rates. Passengers purchasing tickets from the remaining fare categories may therefore find higher prices than the cheapest available tickets, based on the fare structure.

Meanwhile, the private helicopter sector has also been supporting disaster-response efforts, according to the association.

Private helicopter companies have prioritized search and rescue operations during the ongoing disaster. Helicopters have been deployed to transport essential supplies and relief materials to affected areas.

Private helicopters are also being used to transport security personnel involved in rescue operations, helping authorities reach areas affected by flooding and other disruptions.

The aviation sector’s response comes as authorities and rescue agencies continue efforts to provide assistance to communities affected by the disaster.

The association said airlines and private helicopter operators are continuing to support transportation and emergency response efforts while maintaining their respective services during the crisis.
