Amrit Lamsal Appointed Chairman of NEPSE, Ending One-and-a-Half-Month Leadership Vacancy

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has appointed a new chairman after a leadership vacancy that lasted for nearly one and a half months. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has appointed Joint Secretary Amrit Lamsal of the Ministry of Finance as the new chairman of NEPSE.

The chairman’s position had remained vacant since the previous chairman resigned on April 28 (Baisakh 15). The prolonged vacancy had raised concerns regarding policy decisions and administrative functioning within the country's sole stock exchange.

Lamsal is currently serving as a division chief at the Ministry of Finance and brings experience in public finance, policy formulation, and government administration. His appointment is expected to provide stability and strategic direction to Nepal’s capital market institution.

NEPSE plays a crucial role in Nepal’s financial sector as the country's only organized secondary securities market. The appointment comes at a time when discussions around capital market reforms, technological upgrades, market infrastructure development, and investor protection have gained significant attention.

Market participants and investors are hopeful that the new leadership will contribute to strengthening NEPSE’s institutional capacity, enhancing market efficiency, and accelerating long-awaited reforms in Nepal’s capital market ecosystem.
