Annapurna Rural Municipality in Myagdi has declared a public mourning holiday on Monday following the death of world-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, popularly known as "Nimsdai," in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, the municipality announced that all government offices, ward offices, health institutions, and community schools will remain closed, except for essential services. The local government stated that the holiday has been declared as a mark of respect for Purja's extraordinary contribution to mountaineering and his lasting legacy.

Nirmal Purja was internationally recognized for redefining the limits of high-altitude mountaineering and inspiring climbers across the world. His passing has deeply saddened Nepal's mountaineering community and admirers worldwide.
