Balen Shah Not Fit for Prime Minister’s Post, Says Former PM Jhalanath Khanal

Former Prime Minister and senior leader of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal, has strongly criticized Prime Minister Balendra Shah over his recent remarks in Parliament regarding Nepal–India border issues.

In a statement shared on social media on Monday, Khanal described the Prime Minister’s comments as “dangerous and anti-national,” saying such statements are inappropriate for someone holding the country’s highest executive office.

He further argued that the remarks have hurt the patriotic sentiments of 30 million Nepali citizens and called on political forces and citizens to strongly condemn the statement unless an apology is issued.

“Such a person making anti-national remarks does not deserve to sit in the Prime Minister’s chair,” Khanal stated.

Khanal also questioned the basis and evidence behind the Prime Minister’s claim, asking what facts or documents were used to support the statement made in Parliament. He termed the issue serious and demanded that the remarks be removed from the parliamentary record.

The controversy comes amid rising political tensions following recent comments made in the federal parliament, which have triggered widespread debate across political parties.
