Bulldozers Deployed to Clear Manohara Settlement Under Heavy Security

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started clearing unauthorized structures in the Manohara squatter settlement using bulldozers.

The move is part of a broader government initiative to remove illegal encroachments on public land, particularly along riverbanks.

To manage the operation and maintain order, approximately 1,900 security personnel have been deployed, including 1,300 from the Nepal Police and 600 from the Armed Police Force Nepal.

Residents were given time until 9:00 AM to voluntarily dismantle their huts and relocate their belongings. While some complied, authorities have begun demolishing the remaining structures.

The situation remains tense following clashes on Saturday evening, during which more than 20 security personnel were injured after residents protested by throwing stones.

There are approximately 777 huts and structures in the settlement. The government has stated that it will identify genuine landless residents within the next two weeks and initiate proper resettlement measures.
