Cement and Rebar Prices Fall as Nepal's Construction Sector Slows Down
A slowdown in construction activities and sluggish development projects have pushed cement and rebar prices lower across Nepal.

Prices of cement and rebar have declined in Nepal as the country's construction sector continues to experience a significant slowdown. According to the Federation of Contractors' Associations of Nepal, construction activity is currently operating at only around 12 percent of its normal capacity, resulting in lower demand for construction materials.
With demand weakening, manufacturers and suppliers have reduced prices to stimulate sales. Cement prices have dropped from around Rs. 800 per bag to approximately Rs. 600 per bag. Similarly, rebar prices have fallen from Rs. 115 per kilogram to around Rs. 86 per kilogram.
Industry stakeholders attribute the decline in demand to delayed infrastructure projects, reduced private-sector investment, and a sluggish real estate market. These factors have affected overall market transactions and limited the consumption of construction materials.
Despite the slowdown, lower material costs are expected to provide some relief to home builders, contractors, and real estate developers by reducing construction expenses. Industry experts believe prices could stabilize if construction activities and development projects regain momentum in the coming months.
