Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have announced a Rs150 million multi-phase relief and rehabilitation programme for communities affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

The programme will focus on immediate relief, temporary housing, healthcare and long-term rehabilitation of families affected by the floods.

Under the first phase, the organizations will distribute food, drinking water, clothing, tarpaulins, personal hygiene products and other essential supplies. Relief materials began reaching affected areas on August 27, with employees of both organizations mobilized for distribution.

Two relief camps will also be established in Rasuwa and Nuwakot in coordination with local administrations. The camps will provide daily meals, clean drinking water, sanitation facilities and safe spaces for children.

The organizations will also work with Dhulikhel Hospital to operate health camps offering primary healthcare and disease-prevention services in flood-affected communities.

The second phase will include the construction of 500 temporary housing units for families whose homes were completely destroyed or rendered uninhabitable by the floods. The shelters will be built in coordination with federal and local governments and will provide temporary accommodation until permanent reconstruction is completed.

The programme will also support the construction of permanent shelters and essential community infrastructure in affected areas.

As part of its longer-term health initiative, Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will collaborate with Dhulikhel Hospital to establish a Center for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, focusing on disease surveillance, preventive healthcare and preparedness for future outbreaks following disasters.

Nirvana Chaudhary, chairman of Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank, said the initiative would extend beyond emergency relief to cover rescue, temporary shelter, permanent rehabilitation and long-term public health preparedness.

The organizations will coordinate with government agencies, local administrations, security agencies, health workers, community groups and volunteers to ensure assistance reaches the most affected and vulnerable families.
