Passengers traveling within Bagmati Province and Kathmandu Valley continue to pay higher public transport fares despite a reduction in fuel prices, as the provincial government has yet to revise fare rates.

The federal government already adjusted fares for inter-provincial public transportation after petroleum prices declined. However, fare revisions for transport services operating within Bagmati Province remain pending, resulting in continued higher travel costs for commuters.

Punya Prasad Sitoula (Saroj), President of the Nepal National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, said provincial governments have failed to revise fares in line with declining fuel prices. He noted that while the federal government acted promptly on inter-provincial routes, provincial authorities have delayed similar adjustments for local transport services.

According to the federation, Koshi Province is the only province that has shown notable progress in fare adjustments, while other provinces, including Bagmati, have been slow to act.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport of Bagmati Province stated that the fare revision process is in its final stage. Senior official Khagendra Poudel said administrative restructuring and changes in ministerial responsibilities caused the delay.

The ministry expects to announce revised public transport fares for Bagmati Province within the next few days, allowing commuters to benefit from lower fuel prices through reduced transportation costs.
