Economic Census Begins to Capture Data from Informal Shops to Large Industries Nationwide
Nepal has launched a nationwide economic census to collect detailed data across 18 sectors, covering both registered and unregistered businesses.

Nepal has officially commenced a nationwide economic census from today, aiming to gather comprehensive data on the country’s industrial and economic landscape.
According to the Ministry of Finance Nepal, the census will collect baseline information across 18 different economic sectors, including industry, business, services, cooperatives, private sector entities, and public institutions.
The data collection will include details such as the number and type of establishments, investment levels, employment figures, production, and service delivery.
The census will cover a wide range of entities, including both registered and unregistered businesses—from small shops and self-employed enterprises to large industries, factories, NGOs, government institutions, schools, and hospitals.
Preparatory work for the census was completed by the end of Falgun. A total of 84 offices—covering all 77 districts along with additional units—have been set up to facilitate the operation, which will continue until the end of Ashar.
The last national economic census was conducted in 2018 (2075 B.S.), which reported over 923,356 establishments operating across the country.
