Education Ministry to Hold Talks with Local Governments Over Admission Fee Irregularities
The Ministry of Education is set to discuss student admission processes and fee irregularities with local authorities and stakeholders amid rising complaints against private schools.

The government is working to strengthen coordination between federal and local levels to improve the school education system.
In this context, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Nepal has called a meeting with local governments and stakeholders to discuss student admission procedures, fee regulations, and irregularities observed in private schools.
The meeting, to be held at Singha Durbar, will include representatives from major metropolitan cities of Kathmandu Valley, municipal and rural municipality associations, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The discussion aims to address confusion surrounding student enrollment, fee overcharging beyond approved limits, and the academic calendar as the new academic session approaches.
Recently, complaints have increased regarding private schools conducting early admissions and charging fees beyond the approved standards. The ministry has already instructed schools to refund illegally collected fees.
The federal government had directed schools to begin admissions from Baisakh 15 and start classes from Baisakh 21. However, local governments in Kathmandu Valley have issued different instructions, allowing admissions from Baisakh 11 and classes from Baisakh 15.
The upcoming meeting is expected to bring clarity and help establish a uniform education policy implementation framework across the country.
