Egg prices in Nepal have started rising again as the impact of the recent bird flu outbreak eases and market demand gradually recovers.

According to the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association, the price of large eggs has increased from Rs 450 to Rs 500 per crate (30 eggs). The price of medium eggs has risen from Rs 420 to Rs 470 per crate, while small eggs are now priced at Rs 415 per crate. All categories have seen a Rs 50 per crate increase.

The Association's Central President, Binod Pokharel, said the price adjustment was driven by lower production and improving market demand.

He explained that daily egg production, which previously averaged around 4.5 million eggs, had fallen to approximately 2.8 million eggs following the bird flu outbreak.

Pokharel noted that egg prices had reached Rs 550 per crate toward the end of Jestha before falling sharply to Rs 450 as the bird flu affected consumer demand. Prices have now begun to recover as consumption improves.

Despite the latest increase, farmers are still selling below production cost. According to the Association, the production cost of one crate of eggs is approximately Rs 573.60, or about Rs 19.12 per egg, meaning producers continue to face financial losses.

The Association has also urged the government to provide relief and financial support to poultry farmers affected by bird flu, citing the significant losses suffered during the outbreak.
