Energy Ministry Tightens Service Fee Monitoring, Urges Public to Report Extra Charges via Hotline 1151

Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has urged service recipients to immediately report, along with evidence, any demand for charges beyond the prescribed fee to the ministry hotline number 1151.

After assuming office, Minister Shrestha has prioritized grievance hearing and prompt resolution as a key focus of the ministry. Under his directive, efforts have been intensified to make service delivery more efficient, transparent, and accountable across the ministry and its subordinate agencies.

In this context, the hotline number 1151, used for addressing electricity-related complaints and issues, has been made more active and result-oriented. According to the ministry, 13,088 complaints have been addressed through the hotline since the minister assumed office on Chaitra 13.

The complaints mainly include power outages (no light), damaged transformers, lack of poles and meters, and underground electricity installations. The ministry has stated that it is focused on resolving such issues quickly to ensure smooth service delivery for citizens.

Similarly, arrangements have been made for immediate resolution of energy-related grievances raised by members of the federal and provincial parliaments during zero and special hour sessions.

To improve governance and service delivery, the ministry has also established a “Good Governance Unit” under the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act, 2064.

The unit has been assigned sectoral responsibilities and has structured systems for monitoring, evaluation, and performance assessment. It regularly reviews employee performance, responsibility fulfillment, compliance with legal deadlines, and service delivery efficiency.

The ministry has emphasized a delivery-based governance system, focusing on improved service delivery, effective grievance management, and enhanced employee accountability.
