Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has directed senior officials of Nepal’s revenue administration to work actively and efficiently to achieve the government’s revenue collection target for the upcoming fiscal year.
Before assuming their new responsibilities, the minister instructed newly appointed officials including Director General of the Department of Customs Yam Lal Bhusal, Director General of the Inland Revenue Department Dr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, and Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Acharya, who has been appointed as Deputy Director General at the Customs Department, to prioritize revenue mobilization.
Minister Wagle urged officials to work with high morale, integrity, and dedication to make the government’s “Mission Rs 1.6 Trillion” revenue target successful.
He stated that the ministry would provide all necessary support to prevent revenue leakage, increase voluntary tax payments, and encourage citizens and businesses to comply with tax obligations.
The Finance Minister also emphasized the need to integrate customs and tax administration systems with information technology to make them more transparent, efficient, and effective. According to him, digital transformation of revenue systems would help improve administration and reduce tax leakage.
He highlighted that increasing domestic revenue collection would strengthen Nepal’s economic foundation. Higher internal revenue would help reduce dependence on external borrowing and support development activities based on domestic resources.
The minister also instructed authorities to take strict action against employees involved in misconduct while encouraging and rewarding those who perform their duties honestly and responsibly.
The Cabinet meeting held on Ashadh 18 decided to transfer Yam Lal Bhusal, Dr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, and Prem Prasad Acharya to new responsibilities under the Ministry of Finance. The newly appointed officials have expressed their commitment to implementing the minister’s directives and working toward achieving the revenue target.
