Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged 20 major multinational and domestic companies operating in Nepal to expand their investments, increase production, create jobs and reinvest their profits.

During a meeting with representatives of the companies, Wagle said the government’s responsibility is to protect legitimate investments, assets created through those investments and profits earned by businesses. He stressed that investors need confidence that their property is secure, policies are stable and the tax system is predictable.

Wagle said the government sees the private sector as a partner in economic development, rather than simply a source of tax revenue. He encouraged existing businesses to expand their operations, introduce new products and technologies, and create more employment.

The Finance Ministry will establish a ‘Response Desk’ to track the issues raised by companies and coordinate with relevant ministries within defined timelines. Wagle also asked businesses to identify the five most important reforms the government should implement within the next six months, particularly in areas such as taxation, regulation, land, energy, labour, infrastructure, finance and exports.
