Five Arrested for Allegedly Defrauding Job Seekers in Foreign Employment Scam

Nepal Police have arrested five individuals on charges of defrauding job seekers by promising attractive overseas employment opportunities in countries including the UAE, Georgia, Belarus, Romania, and Turkey.

According to police, those arrested are Kunsang Lama (36) of Sindhuli, Dhan Bahadur Shahi (42) of Bardiya, Umesh Limbu of Taplejung, Sachita Pariyar (21) of Tanahun, and Niroj Rai (41) of Khotang.

Police said Kunsang Lama allegedly collected Rs. 207,000 from a victim by promising employment in the United Arab Emirates, while Dhan Bahadur Shahi took Rs. 295,000 from another victim with the promise of sending them to Georgia. Umesh Limbu is accused of collecting Rs. 500,000 for jobs in Belarus, Sachita Pariyar allegedly took Rs. 150,000 for employment in Romania, and Niroj Rai collected Rs. 790,000 from two victims by promising jobs in Turkey before going out of contact.

Acting on complaints filed by the victims, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested the suspects from different locations across Kathmandu Valley. Kunsang Lama and Dhan Bahadur Shahi were arrested on Thursday, while Umesh Limbu, Sachita Pariyar, and Niroj Rai were taken into custody on Friday.

Police have handed all five suspects over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
