Flash Flood Risk in Small Rivers Across Nepal for Next Three Days

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast the possibility of flash floods in small rivers across various parts of Nepal for the next three days. The department said active monsoon conditions may cause rising water levels in rivers, particularly in several districts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

According to the department, small rivers in districts including Panchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahun, Makwanpur, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Syangja, and Kailali are at risk of sudden flooding.

Flood expert Binod Parajuli stated that Kathmandu Valley, including Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavrepalanchok, and surrounding areas, also face a high risk of flash floods. The department has advised the public to remain alert as heavy rainfall may affect daily life, agriculture, transportation, tourism, and increase the risk of floods and landslides.
