Former Minister Mahesh Basnet Challenges Government: “Try Arresting Me”

Nepal Communist Party (UML) Politburo member and former minister Mahesh Basnet issued a bold warning to the government, challenging authorities to arrest him following a complaint filed by a woman.

Speaking to reporters after providing a statement at the police cyber bureau on Wednesday, Basnet stated that his group will now form a digital task force to submit complaints to the police concerning arson, looting, and killings linked to the Gen Z protests.

“I am ready to face imprisonment in support of law, democracy, and the people, but I will not tolerate false allegations. The government must ensure that those involved in arson, looting, and killings during the Gen Z movement are brought under justice,” Basnet emphasized.

He also expressed concerns regarding the upcoming elections scheduled for Falgun 21, suggesting that the recent unrest may raise questions about the electoral process.
