Gagan Thapa Accuses Government of Prioritizing Popularity Over People's Real Issues

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has accused the government of prioritizing public popularity over addressing the real challenges faced by citizens.

Speaking at a review meeting on the government's 100-day performance and 100-point program at the party's central office in Sanepa on Sunday, Thapa criticized the government's working style, saying it is more focused on gaining attention on social media than improving people's lives.

He alleged that while resolving the problems of landless citizens is the responsibility of the state, the government has carried out demolition drives in various settlements without providing proper alternative arrangements. According to Thapa, the issue of landlessness is a long-standing structural problem that requires a systematic and lawful solution.

Recalling the constitutional provisions related to the rights of landless Dalits, Thapa said the Constitution had envisioned special protections for the community, but the current approach of removing settlements without adequate planning contradicts that objective.

Thapa also welcomed the government's decision to apologize to the Dalit community, calling it a positive step. In addition, he described the Prime Minister's effort to carry out governance reforms from Singha Durbar as a modest but encouraging initiative.

He stressed that the government should prioritize resolving citizens' everyday problems instead of focusing primarily on public image and social media popularity.
