Government to Begin Returning Deposits of Affected Cooperatives from First Week of Jestha
The government has announced that it will start refunding savings of troubled cooperatives from the first week of Jestha. Around 76,000 depositors are set to receive their funds under a structured repayment plan.

The government has decided to begin returning the deposits of members of problematic cooperatives from the first week of Jestha. The process will be initiated by the Problematic Cooperative Management Committee, which started its work on Baisakh 9.
The committee has been collecting necessary data from cooperatives and depositors to prepare for the refund process. According to the committee, around 76,000 depositors are affected, with total savings of approximately NPR 46 billion pending repayment.
Depositors have been categorized into two groups: small savers with deposits below NPR 500,000 and large savers with deposits above that threshold. Out of the total depositors, around 18,000 fall under the large saver category.
Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Pratibha Rawal, stated that significant preparations have already been completed and the repayment process will now begin. She added that small depositors will be prioritized in the initial phase.
The committee has also stated that deposit refund distribution will begin in the first week of Jestha, while a re-claim window for missed applications will be opened in the first week of Shrawan.
Additionally, the committee clarified that if the revolving fund allocated by the government is insufficient, it will only be used as a loan. The committee has also committed to strict legal measures for loan recovery.
