Government to Distribute Land Ownership Certificates to Landless Squatters After Completing Legal Procedures: Minister Rawal

Land Management, Cooperatives and Federal Affairs Minister Pratibha Rawal has said the government is committed to providing land ownership certificates (Lalpurja) to landless squatters after completing all required legal procedures.

Minister Rawal, along with Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and other cabinet members, visited the holding center in Kharipati, Bhaktapur, on Sunday to inspect the condition of displaced squatters. Other ministers present included government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security Sita Wadi, Minister for Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta, and Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment Ramji Yadav.

During the visit, Minister Rawal stated that the government aims to resolve landless settlement issues permanently by ensuring the legal distribution of land ownership certificates, leaving no room for future disputes. She acknowledged that the process would take time but stressed that the government is working toward a long-term and sustainable solution.

She also urged political parties and stakeholders not to politicize the issue of landless squatters.

According to the Home Ministry Secretariat, the ministers also held discussions with the displaced families and informed them about the government's immediate relief measures as well as long-term rehabilitation plans.

The visit comes after squatters staying at the Kirtipur Holding Center were relocated to the Kharipati Holding Center following flooding at the Kirtipur facility.
