Government to Expand Land Administration Services to All Local Levels Within a Month

The government is preparing to make land administration services available through all local governments across Nepal within the next month. The initiative aims to bring essential land-related services closer to citizens and eliminate the need to travel long distances to Land Revenue and Survey Offices.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah announced the plan through a Facebook statement on Monday, saying that the government has prioritized transferring land administration services to the local level.

According to Shah, bringing government services closer to citizens is one of the key objectives of the federal democratic republic. He emphasized that people should be able to access essential public services locally rather than spending time and resources travelling to distant government offices.

The initiative is part of the government's 100-point governance reform agenda. The process of transferring land administration services to local governments has already advanced under the Constitution of Nepal, the Local Government Operation Act, 2017, and the Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2083.

So far, 33 local governments have started providing land administration services. The government has now decided to make arrangements for all remaining local governments to begin offering these services within the next month. Shah also assured that the federal government would provide the necessary assistance and support to facilitate implementation.

The expansion is expected to help local governments exercise their constitutional and legal responsibilities in land administration more effectively. It will also make services currently provided by Land Revenue and Survey Offices more accessible to people in their respective areas.

The government expects the decentralization of these services to simplify administrative procedures, reduce travel-related costs and improve public service delivery. The move is also intended to strengthen federalism and put the principle of "Singha Durbar in Every Village" into practice by bringing government services closer to citizens.
