Heavy Rainfall Likely Across Nepal Today and Tomorrow, Disaster Authority Urges High Alert

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across most parts of Nepal on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Based on forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the hilly and Terai regions of all provinces except Karnali Province. Authorities have cautioned that continuous rainfall could significantly increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, river overflow, erosion, and urban flooding.

Residents living near rivers, streams, landslide-prone areas, and flood-risk zones have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, identify safe evacuation locations, and remain prepared to move to safer places if necessary.

The disaster authority has also instructed security agencies, local governments, emergency responders, and volunteers to remain on standby for rescue and relief operations. Local authorities have been requested to keep heavy machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, and loaders ready for emergency road clearance and disaster response.

Citizens seeking weather updates can contact the rainfall information hotline at 1155, while emergency assistance is available through 1149, Nepal Police (100), and the Armed Police Force hotline (1114).

The authority has urged everyone to follow official weather forecasts and disaster advisories regularly, emphasizing that timely preparedness is the most effective way to minimize the impact of floods, landslides, and other monsoon-related disasters.
