Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several Parts of Nepal Today
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several provinces, warning of possible floods, landslides, and disruptions to transportation and daily life.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of Nepal today, urging residents to remain cautious as active monsoon conditions increase the risk of floods, landslides, and other weather-related disasters.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, monsoon winds are currently active across the country, while the monsoon trough remains slightly north of its average position near Nepal's southern plains.
Most parts of the country are experiencing cloudy conditions. Light to moderate rainfall is already occurring in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, as well as isolated areas of Madhesh and Sudurpashchim provinces.
During the day, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are expected to remain mostly cloudy, while Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces will experience generally cloudy weather. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with light snowfall also possible in higher elevations.
The department has forecast moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across many hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, several locations in Madhesh Province, and parts of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. Heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces and in isolated areas of the Terai.
Rainfall is expected to continue into the night. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Madhesh provinces, while isolated areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces may also receive heavy rain. Extremely heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the hilly districts of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.
The department has warned that the active monsoon may trigger flash floods, river swelling, landslides, and soil erosion. It has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, noting that agriculture, tourism, mountaineering, road transport, and air travel could also be affected.
