Human Rights Commission Recommends Legal Action Against Oli, Lekhak, and Gurung Through Special Law

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has released its report on the Gen-Z movement, recommending the government take legal action against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and former Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung through a new special legal framework.

In the report made public on Wednesday, the commission concluded that the three leaders were involved in human rights violations. According to the commission, existing laws do not clearly define punishment for such cases, making a separate legal provision necessary.

The commission has proposed a legal arrangement that could impose penalties of up to six months imprisonment, a fine of up to Rs. 300,000, or both if individuals are found guilty under the proposed law.

Additionally, the NHRC recommended barring those found responsible from contesting elections or holding politically appointed public positions for at least five years.

The report also suggests restricting them from holding administrative responsibilities for three years and imposing a minimum three-year ban on foreign travel.

The publication of the report has sparked widespread political discussion, while the government has yet to issue an official response regarding the commission’s recommendations.
