IRD Launches Taxpayer Reward Portal; Consumers Urged to Register Cash Purchase Bills
Nepal's Inland Revenue Department has asked consumers who make cash purchases to register their PAN or VAT bills through its taxpayer reward portal.
Nepal's Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has urged consumers to register their PAN or VAT bills under its newly launched Taxpayer Reward Program.
According to a notice issued on Saturday, consumers who have made cash purchases worth Rs 100 or more since Shrawan 1 and received an original PAN or VAT bill can upload the bill through the Taxpayer Reward Portal.
The department clarified that transactions above Rs 100 made through QR payments are automatically recorded in the IRD system, meaning manual bill submission is not required for those transactions. However, consumers must keep the original bill to claim any prize.
Deputy Director General Janak Raj Sharma urged consumers to always request PAN or VAT bills when making purchases and report businesses that fail to issue them.
Daily and Fortnightly Cash Rewards
Under the taxpayer incentive scheme introduced from Shrawan 1, one winner will receive Rs 100,000 (after tax deduction) every day.
In addition, one lucky participant will receive a bumper cash prize of Rs 1 million every 15 days, according to the department.
The IRD said it is preparing to announce the results of the first 15-day draw next week.
The reward scheme was introduced as part of the FY 2083/84 national budget, announced by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Waglé, to encourage consumers to demand tax invoices and improve tax compliance.
