Jaynagar–Bardibas Railway Construction Gains Momentum After Land Compensation Dispute Resolved
Construction of the Jaynagar–Bardibas railway has accelerated after the resolution of land compensation disputes, with services to Bardibas targeted within two years.

Construction of the Jaynagar–Bardibas railway project has gathered pace following the resolution of long-standing land compensation disputes. Nepal Railway Company aims to extend railway services to Bardibas within the next two years.
According to Paribesh Parajuli, Managing Director of Nepal Railway Company, construction contractor IRCON International has intensified track-laying work in the districts of Dhanusha and Mahottari after the compensation issues were settled.
The 70-kilometer Jaynagar–Bardibas railway line is being developed in phases. The Jaynagar–Kurtha section has already been in regular operation since April 2022 (Chaitra 19, 2078 BS), while work continues on the remaining section toward Bardibas.
Meanwhile, Nepal Railway Company has also launched a survey to identify railway land that has been encroached upon in various locations. The company is using official land maps to locate and reclaim the encroached properties.
The Jaynagar–Bardibas railway is a key cross-border broad-gauge railway project being developed under Nepal–India bilateral cooperation. Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen cross-border connectivity, facilitate trade and economic activities, improve passenger transportation, and contribute significantly to the expansion of Nepal's railway infrastructure.
