Kathmandu to Launch Eight Free ‘Blue Buses’ for Women from Shrawan 1

The government is preparing to launch the first phase of its Blue Bus service in Kathmandu Valley from Shrawan 1, with eight buses set to begin operations to enhance the safety and convenience of women commuters.

The initiative is part of the government's 100-point Governance Reform Action Plan, which aims to introduce free transportation services for women across all seven provinces.

According to Ramhari Pokharel, spokesperson for the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, a total of 25 Blue Buses will be deployed within the government's first 100 days. Sajha Yatayat has already submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Finance, and the service will commence once formal approval is received.

In the initial phase, two buses will operate on the Lagankhel–Budhanilkantha route, while another two buses will run between Thankot–Naagdhunga–Tribhuvan International Airport.

Additionally, four buses will operate along the Ring Road, with two running clockwise and two operating in the anti-clockwise direction to improve accessibility across the valley.

The government plans to gradually expand the Blue Bus service to other provinces after its initial rollout in Kathmandu.
