Koshi River Water Flow Rises, 30 Gates of Koshi Barrage Opened
Continuous rainfall in eastern hill and Terai districts has increased the water flow in the Koshi River. The flow at Koshi Barrage reached 229,960 cusecs at 1:15 PM on Friday.
The water flow in the Koshi River has been rising following continuous rainfall in eastern hill and Terai districts.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Bahadur Khadka of Sunsari, the water flow through Koshi Barrage was measured at 229,960 cusecs at 1:15 PM on Friday.
Due to the high water level, 30 of the total 56 gates at Koshi Barrage have been opened. The barrage has 52 main gates and four canal gates.
As the water flow increased, a red warning light was switched on at Koshi Barrage as a danger signal. A red flag has also been raised, according to the Koshi Barrage Control Room.
Authorities expect the river's water level could rise further. The Control Room said that the water level is being continuously monitored in view of the possibility of increased flow.
