MP Anushka Shrestha Calls for Mandatory Sale of Nepali Products at Tribhuvan International Airport Shops

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Anushka Shrestha has called on the government to make it mandatory for all shops inside Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to sell Nepali-made products.

Speaking during the zero hour session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, she emphasized the need to utilize the airport as a key platform for promoting Nepali goods, handicrafts, local cuisine, and “Made in Nepal” branding.

According to her, thousands of passengers travel through the airport daily, presenting a significant opportunity to showcase Nepal’s identity to the world through locally made products.

“Inside Tribhuvan Airport, the presence of Nepali flavors, handicrafts, and Made in Nepal products is still very weak. Sending travelers with local products is an important opportunity to project Nepal’s identity globally,” she said.

Shrestha also urged the government and airport management to introduce dedicated sections for Nepali products in shop allocations and tender processes. She further stressed that small and local entrepreneurs should be given priority.

She highlighted that the airport should be developed as an effective platform for taking Nepali products to international markets.
