MP Jagdish Kharel Denies Involvement in Smart Telecom Scam, Challenges Critics
RSP lawmaker Jagdish Kharel has denied any involvement in the alleged Rs 30 billion Smart Telecom scam and stated that he would quit politics if any allegation against him is proven true.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Jagdish Kharel has strongly denied allegations linking him to the alleged Rs 30 billion Smart Telecom fraud case. He stated that he is ready to permanently quit politics if any accusation against him is proven true.
Speaking during an emergency session in the House of Representatives on Monday, Kharel claimed that recent media reports connecting him to the Smart Telecom controversy were misleading, baseless, and intended to damage his reputation. He clarified that he had no involvement in any meetings, file approvals, or official decisions related to the telecom case.
Kharel also objected to reports claiming that he had secretly fled to Switzerland, calling such reporting irresponsible and harmful to his personal image, political career, party, and Parliament itself.
“I want to openly challenge anyone to prove that I attended even a single meeting, approved a file, or coordinated with any ministry or related authority regarding the Smart Telecom case. If proven, I will permanently leave politics,” Kharel said during the parliamentary session.
He further questioned the credibility of journalism if such serious allegations are published without evidence and demanded that the matter be officially recorded in Parliament.
