Mustang EV Imports Found Compliant, Irregularities Detected in Rasuwa Customs Clearance

Customs Department has concluded that electric vehicles imported through Mustang Customs were processed in accordance with regulations, while irregularities were found in customs clearance procedures at Rasuwa Customs.

According to the department, a monitoring team reviewed official records and CCTV footage related to 649 electric vehicles imported through Mustang Customs and confirmed that the vehicles had entered Nepal by Jestha 14 and were cleared following legal procedures.

However, the investigation found procedural weaknesses at Rasuwa Customs. The monitoring team discovered instances where some vehicles were cleared based solely on documentation before physically arriving at the customs point.

The report stated that responsible officials failed to exercise adequate caution and fulfill their official duties during the clearance process.

Following the findings, the Ministry of Finance and the Customs Department had already suspended 13 officials, including the then chief of Rasuwa Customs, and initiated departmental action against them.

The department has also directed Rasuwa Customs to proceed with legal action against customs clearance representatives associated with companies including Laxmi e-Mobility, Cimex Inc., CG Motors and Puja International under prevailing customs laws.
