Nepal’s first modern tunnel project, the Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel, has officially come into operation.

The tunnel was inaugurated by Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal during a special ceremony. Following the inauguration, the tunnel has become operational for public transportation.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, and representatives involved in the construction of the tunnel.

The project is considered a historic milestone in Nepal’s infrastructure sector. The tunnel is expected to improve traffic management at Nagdhunga, one of the major entry points to Kathmandu Valley.

With the operation of the tunnel, authorities expect reduced traffic congestion along the Nagdhunga–Naubise road section, shorter travel times, and lower fuel consumption.

Constructed with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the tunnel project marks a significant step forward in Nepal’s transportation infrastructure development.
