National Cleanliness Week Begins in Government Offices Across Nepal

The government has launched the ‘National Cleanliness Week’ campaign in government offices across Nepal starting today, aiming to promote clean, dignified, and environment-friendly public service delivery. The campaign will continue until Jestha 1.

Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has issued a special directive instructing all federal, provincial, and local government bodies to actively participate in the campaign.

The campaign was formally inaugurated this morning from Bir Hospital. According to the government’s “Cleanliness Week Operation Guideline 2083,” offices are expected to implement effective sanitation standards with minimum cost and maximum impact.

The guideline requires government offices to maintain clear information boards, citizen charters, and directional signs. Office premises, entrances, and service areas must remain clean and visually organized, while damaged walls and infrastructure should be repaired and repainted.

Similarly, all toilets must be odor-free with regular water supply and mandatory soap facilities. Daily cleaning records are also required. Authorities have emphasized women-friendly, disability-friendly, and sanitary disposal-equipped restroom facilities.

Government offices are also instructed to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste using at least two types of dustbins. Open burning of waste has been completely prohibited, while nearby drainage systems and parking areas must be properly cleaned and maintained.

To ensure sustainability, each office must appoint a designated cleanliness focal person and prepare weekly cleaning schedules along with monthly self-evaluation reports.

The government believes the campaign will help establish a safer and cleaner working environment in public offices while improving service experiences for citizens.
