Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe has raised serious concerns over lawmakers who applauded Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s controversial remarks regarding Nepal’s border issue with India. Speaking in the House of Representatives on Wednesday after Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal provided clarification on the matter, Angdembe strongly criticized members of the ruling side, particularly lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). He questioned whether the lawmakers who supported the Prime Minister's statement had adequately considered the sensitivity of national border issues. Angdembe also raised concerns about whether there is genuine freedom of expression within the RSP, suggesting that party members may not be freely voicing their opinions. Referring to the applause received by the Prime Minister's statement in Parliament, he argued that such support sends a troubling message on matters related to national sovereignty and foreign relations. The Congress leader emphasized that issues involving national borders require careful and responsible discussion, adding that political leaders and lawmakers should exercise greater caution when addressing such sensitive topics. His remarks have further intensified the ongoing political debate surrounding the Prime Minister’s comments and the reactions they generated within Parliament.
