Nepal Imports 10,845 Electric Vehicles in 11 Months as EV Demand Surges
Nepal imported 10,845 electric vehicles worth over Rs 25.56 billion during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, reflecting strong growth in demand for eco-friendly transportation.

Nepal has witnessed a significant rise in electric vehicle (EV) imports during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, highlighting the growing popularity of sustainable transportation among consumers.
According to data released by the Department of Customs, a total of 10,845 electric vehicles were imported into the country during the review period. The combined value of these imports exceeded Rs 25.56 billion.
The imported vehicles covered a wide range of power capacities, from smaller models below 50 kilowatts to larger vehicles exceeding 200 kilowatts, reflecting the increasing diversity of Nepal’s EV market.
Mid-range electric vehicles with capacities between 51 kilowatts and 100 kilowatts emerged as the most preferred segment. During the eleven-month period, Nepal imported 6,357 vehicles in this category, valued at approximately Rs 16.50 billion.
Meanwhile, smaller electric vehicles with capacities of up to 50 kilowatts also recorded strong demand. Customs data shows that 3,680 such vehicles were imported, with a total value of around Rs 5.65 billion.
The figures indicate that electric vehicles are steadily moving beyond a niche market and becoming a mainstream transportation choice in Nepal. Rising fuel costs, increasing environmental awareness, and supportive government policies have all contributed to the rapid growth of the country's EV sector.
