Nepal Rastra Bank has launched a new Rs. 500 banknote into circulation, incorporating advanced security technologies and improved design features aimed at strengthening currency authentication and usability.

The front side of the banknote features an image of Mount Everest, Nepal’s highest peak and a globally recognized national symbol. A watermark of the national flower, Rhododendron (Laliguras), has been included on the right side of the note.

To improve accessibility for visually impaired individuals, the banknote includes two black tactile dots on the left side, allowing easier identification through touch.

The note also incorporates several modern security features. An image of Kubera is embedded within an oval-shaped security element next to Mount Everest. This feature appears golden when viewed directly and changes to green when tilted. Additionally, a 3.5-millimeter-wide security thread has been integrated with color-shifting technology, appearing red when viewed straight and green when tilted.

The front side carries the signature of Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwo Nath Poudel along with the series designation “B.S. 2082.”

On the reverse side, the banknote features an image of a Bengal tiger, one of Nepal’s iconic wildlife species. The note also includes the text “Nepal Rastra Bank” and the denomination written in English as “Rupees Five Hundred,” along with the series year “2025.”

The introduction of the new banknote reflects Nepal Rastra Bank’s ongoing efforts to enhance currency security, improve accessibility, and modernize Nepal’s circulating banknotes through the adoption of advanced anti-counterfeiting technologies.
