Nepal’s Capital Market Expands: Rs 83.19B New Listings, Rs 45.16B Public Issues in FY 2081/82

Nepal’s capital market saw a sharp expansion in FY 2081/82, with Rs 83.19 billion worth of additional securities listed and Rs 45.16 billion worth of new instruments approved for public issuance, according to data released by Nepal Rastra Bank.

The new listings included Rs 40.21 billion in ordinary shares, Rs 24.42 billion in bonus shares, Rs 13.23 billion in rights shares, Rs 1.25 billion in mutual funds, Rs 1.12 billion in further public offerings (FPOs), and Rs 3.96 billion in other shares.

Meanwhile, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) approved public issuance of securities worth Rs 45.16 billion: Rs 15.41 billion in rights shares, Rs 15.20 billion in mutual funds, Rs 10.62 billion in debentures, and Rs 3.93 billion in ordinary shares.

Market capitalization climbed to Rs 46.56 trillion by the end of FY 2081/82, up from Rs 35.53 trillion a year earlier. As a share of GDP, market cap surged to 76.25%, compared to 62.25% in FY 2080/81.

The NEPSE index also gained significantly, rising from 2,240.41 in mid-July 2024 to 2,794.79 by mid-July 2025.

The total number of listed companies increased to 272 from 270, including 132 banks, financial institutions, and insurers; 91 hydropower firms; 23 manufacturing and processing companies; 7 hotels; 7 investment firms; 4 trading companies; and 8 in other sectors.

By market capitalization share, banks and insurers accounted for 54.1%, hydropower 15.3%, investment companies 7.7%, manufacturing and processing 5.4%, trading 5.0%, hotels 2.7%, and others 9.8%.

At the end of FY 2081/82, NEPSE reported 8.82 billion listed shares with a total paid-up value of Rs 869.86 billion.
