Nepal’s foreign trade has increased significantly in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, driven by growth in both imports and exports. According to data from the Department of Customs, total foreign trade reached Rs 21.72 trillion, marking a 14.78% increase compared to the same period last year.
Imports rose by 15.16%, reaching Rs 18.94 trillion in the 11-month period of FY 2081/82, up from Rs 16.44 trillion in the previous fiscal year. Exports also showed positive growth, increasing by 12.28%. Export earnings reached Rs 2.77 billion, compared to Rs 2.47 billion in the same period last year.
Although both imports and exports have increased, Nepal’s trade structure remains heavily import-driven, indicating a continued trade imbalance in the economy.
