Nepal's stock market retreated on Wednesday after six consecutive sessions of gains

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) ended its six-day winning streak on Wednesday, with the benchmark index declining by 13.95 points to close at 2,712.54.
The Sensitive Index, which tracks the performance of Class 'A' companies, also moved lower, indicating weakness among the market's largest and most actively traded stocks.
A total of 346 listed companies were traded during the session. Among them, 77 companies recorded price gains, while 193 companies declined, reflecting broad-based selling pressure across the market.
Investors traded 11.36 million shares through 56,094 transactions, generating a total turnover of approximately Rs 5.18 billion. Daily trading volume declined by 22% compared to Tuesday, suggesting reduced market activity following the recent rally.
Sector-wise, only the Finance and Manufacturing & Processing indices closed in positive territory. All other sectors ended lower, with the Trading sector posting the biggest decline of 2.60%.
Among individual stocks, Everest Color Limited, Bungal Hydro Limited, and Salpa Bikash Bank emerged as the top gainers of the day.
The biggest losers included NCC Debenture, Nepal Investment Bank Debenture, and Guardian Micro Life Insurance.
In terms of trading value, Ridi Power Company Limited topped the market, with 1.11 million shares worth more than Rs 423.1 million changing hands during the session.
Market analysts said the decline appears to be driven largely by profit booking after six consecutive days of gains. Investors are expected to closely monitor upcoming policy developments, economic indicators, and corporate earnings for further market direction.
