Kathmandu Valley will begin operating 28 night buses across six new routes from September 3 on the occasion of Constitution Day. Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chandragiri and Budhanilkantha municipalities are working with Sajha Yatayat to expand night-time public transportation services.

The night buses will operate on routes including Godawari–Budhanilkantha, Jagati–Ratnapark–Thamel, Airport–Naagdhunga, Kirtipur–New Road and the Ring Road. With two-way bus services on the Ring Road, passengers will also be able to reach different parts of the valley by changing buses along the route.

Passengers will be charged a maximum fare of Rs. 80 for the night bus service. The municipalities have also decided to continue the service through financial partnerships among the local governments.

Authorities have decided to request the government to amend transportation-related laws to make route permits easier for the operation of night buses. Local governments will also support night-time public activities such as fairs and festivals to make the service more effective.

In addition, local authorities will assist with the construction of charging stations at bus destinations and the management of night-time bus parks.
