NRB to Collect Rs 30 Billion from Banks and Financial Institutions

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) will collect Rs 30 billion in deposits from banks and financial institutions through a bidding process on Wednesday, as the central bank manages liquidity in the financial system.

According to NRB’s notice, the deposits will be collected for a 35-day period. The bidding will take place on Shrawan 27 (August 12) at 3 PM through the central bank’s Online Bidding System.

The interest rate will be determined through competitive bidding. Participating institutions must bid for at least Rs 10 crore, while bids can be submitted in multiples of Rs 5 crore up to the total amount offered. Banks and financial institutions can submit multiple bids within the overall issue limit.

Only NRB-licensed Class A, Class B and Class C banks and financial institutions that meet the central bank’s eligibility requirements can participate in the process.

The Rs 30 billion collected through the deposit auction will be returned to participating institutions along with interest on Bhadra 31, 2083 (September 16, 2026).

The move allows NRB to absorb funds from the banking system for a defined period while providing participating financial institutions with an interest-bearing placement with the central bank.
