Julio Enciso gave Paraguay the lead in the 42nd minute with a header from Matías Galarza's cross, capitalizing on Germany's inability to convert possession into goals. Germany responded in the 54th minute when Florian Wirtz assisted Kai Havertz, whose header restored parity.

Extra time remained tense with limited clear-cut opportunities. Germany appeared to have found the winner through Jonathan Tah, but VAR ruled out the goal after determining a foul on Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill.
