Parliament Introduces Digital Attendance System, Collecting Biometric Data of Lawmakers

Nepal’s Federal Parliament has started preparations to modernize attendance management by introducing an electronic attendance system for lawmakers.

As part of the initiative, biometric information of members from both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly is currently being collected. The new system aims to digitally record lawmakers’ attendance during parliamentary sessions.

According to parliamentary officials, the digital attendance mechanism is expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in attendance management while reducing dependence on manual records.

The biometric enrollment process includes fingerprint and other identity verification data collection. Once implemented, attendance records will be automatically stored through the electronic system.

The Parliament Secretariat stated that the initiative is part of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing administrative operations within the federal parliament.

Officials believe the system will save time, minimize administrative errors, and make parliamentary record management more efficient in the coming years.
