Political Change Alone Cannot Fulfill Public Expectations: President Paudel
President Ramchandra Paudel said that political and structural changes alone are not enough to meet the aspirations of a new era, stressing the need for reforms in governance character, ethics, and political conduct during Republic Day celebrations.

President Ramchandra Paudel has stated that political change and reforms in governance structures alone cannot fulfill the expectations of the people in a new era. Speaking at a special ceremony held at the Tundikhel Army Pavilion on the occasion of Republic Day, he emphasized the need for transformation in the character of state power, political ethics, and values.
He said that “without changes in behavior and conduct, political transformation cannot be justified,” urging political actors to strengthen democratic norms and responsibility. The President highlighted that safeguarding the dignity of the republic requires unity, ethical governance, and commitment to democratic values.
President Paudel stressed that democracy must be practiced through justice, development, and good governance. He expressed confidence that Republic Day inspires progress toward federal democratic republican values grounded in morality, integrity, and responsibility.
Referring to the recent political transition, he noted that a stable government with a strong mandate has been formed after successful elections. He added that the government has prioritized good governance, improved public service delivery, economic recovery, zero tolerance for corruption, and social progress as its core agenda.
He also mentioned the government’s decision to implement a 100-point administrative reform plan aimed at structural and legal improvements to strengthen the economy and trade environment. According to him, eliminating delays, irregularities, and inefficiency is essential for restoring public trust.
President Paudel further emphasized that citizens seek prosperity along with good governance, and that optimal use of national resources is necessary to achieve economic development. He said governance must be directly linked to people’s lives through development and economic growth.
He also noted that political achievements alone are not sufficient unless governance style, political parties, and leadership behavior are improved. He called for democratic, fair, competitive, and effective institutions to strengthen the essence of the republic.
The President underscored that local and provincial governments are already practicing decentralized governance, bringing state power closer to citizens. He expressed confidence that such practices will further strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.
