Prime Minister Shah Ready to Address Parliament Again on Border Issue if Needed, Says Government

The government has stated that Prime Minister Balendra Shah is prepared to appear before Parliament again if required to clarify his recent remarks regarding the Nepal–India border issue.

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel said the Prime Minister remains accountable to Parliament and is willing to provide further explanations if lawmakers seek additional clarification.

Pokharel maintained that the Prime Minister's earlier statement in Parliament was based on factual information obtained through bilateral mechanisms established to address border disputes between Nepal and India.

According to him, both Nepal and India have exchanged diplomatic notes regarding border concerns, and discussions are ongoing through established diplomatic channels to resolve outstanding issues.

“The Prime Minister has already addressed Parliament once and remains ready to do so again if necessary,” Pokharel said while defending the government's position.

The controversy emerged after Prime Minister Shah suggested in Parliament that there could be areas currently being used by Nepal that may fall within Indian territory and vice versa. The statement triggered criticism from opposition parties and sections of the public.

Opposition lawmakers have demanded clarification and an apology, while the government argues that the remarks were made in the context of historical border studies and diplomatic discussions.
