Two major highways connecting Kathmandu, the Prithvi Highway and BP Highway, have resumed operations after being disrupted by continuous rainfall, landslides and flooding.

The Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway was blocked after the road subsided and landslides occurred. Following debris clearance and necessary maintenance, the section has been reopened for two-way traffic.

With the highway reopening, stranded cargo vehicles carrying LPG bullets and essential consumer goods have started entering Kathmandu. Authorities are continuing monitoring and maintenance work at other vulnerable sections of the Nagdhunga–Muglin road corridor.

Meanwhile, the BP Highway, which had remained blocked for five days, also resumed operations from 10 a.m. today. In the Chaukidanda area, where floods and landslides caused significant damage, authorities opened traffic temporarily by using part of an under-construction permanent track after facing difficulties in immediately constructing a permanent diversion.

Small private and passenger vehicles are currently operating along the route. Repair and diversion construction work is being accelerated to facilitate the operation of buses and trucks.

The Department of Roads said work is continuing at various locations to reduce risks and ensure smooth operation of the highways.
