Public Transport Fare Increased Again by 5%, Not Applicable to Electric Vehicles
The government has raised public transport fares by 5% citing rising fuel costs. The new rates apply to both passenger and cargo vehicles, excluding electric vehicles.

The government has once again increased public transport fares across the country. According to a notice issued by the Department of Transport Management, fares for both passenger and freight vehicles have been adjusted by 5 percent.
The department stated that the decision was made at the ministerial level following theoretical approval from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Director Mani Bhusal confirmed that the fare hike applies to inter-provincial passenger and cargo vehicles.
However, the revised fare structure will not be लागू to electric vehicles.
Officials cited rising fuel prices as the primary reason behind the increase. After the latest adjustment, the average price of diesel has reached NPR 235.83 per liter, significantly impacting operational costs.
Previously, on Chaitra 25, the government had also revised transport fares. At that time, passenger fares were increased by 16.71 percent, while cargo transport saw hikes of 21.68 percent in hilly regions and 15.75 percent in the Terai.
With fuel prices rising again since then, transport operators had been demanding another fare adjustment. Although different rates were initially proposed, the government ultimately approved a uniform 5 percent increase.
