Rain and Snowfall Expected Across Much of Nepal; Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued

Several parts of Nepal are experiencing cloudy conditions and rainfall due to the partial influence of the remnants of Cyclone Arnab, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, along with westerly winds. Moderate to heavy snowfall has also been reported in the Himalayan region.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, a few places across the country are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall this afternoon. Moderate rainfall is expected in most areas tonight. On Saturday, most parts of the country are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, along with snowfall in mountainous areas.

The department has warned that a few locations in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces could experience heavy rainfall and snowfall, with very heavy precipitation possible at one or two locations. Heavy rainfall is also likely in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Meteorologist Manisha Niraula said that the highest rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours was 51.4 millimeters at the Pikarnas weather monitoring station in Solukhumbu. The department has issued a heavy snowfall warning for Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and urged people in areas marked orange on its warning map to remain alert.

However, the department has stated that weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from tonight.
